“Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.” Psalm 66:5
I read this and thought, “Do I really think that God is awesome?”
Do you?
Do you really believe that the One on Whom all time and existence now relies upon to be sustained is the same One who orders the steps of your day?
As the complexities of life billow around me and confuse rather than console me, it is easy to see God as merely a super human who is so involved running the universe that His mind must be divided elsewhere: concerned about ISIS, the weather, the price of oil, the federal deficit. . . the prayers and needs of others.
Have you ever wondered, “Am I on His mind? Is He thinking of me?”
All of life’s concerns sometimes leave me hoping for “just a little more God, please.”
But He wants us to know that He gives Himself completely to us. He is, in fact, awesome.
Sometimes I can wrongly believe that the humanity of Jesus means His divinity is limited by my own tendencies. (After all, He is just like me…just a little taller, smarter and more patient, right? Ha!)
In my own half-heartedness toward Him, I can lose sight of who He really is: I have wrongly believed that He could be half-hearted toward us.
He’s not.
Our view of God affects the quality of our lives. His whole-heartedness toward us is meant to be a model of our whole-heartedness toward Him.
He is fully aware of our circumstances, fully engaged in the activities around us, fully working in all of it to develop his kingdom and advance His purposes in our lives and the lives of those around us.
God is limitless in wisdom, love, ability and power. He is effective in all that he does. He never sleeps. He always loves, always provides, always forgives…always listens. (Psalm 139)
He wants us to rest, work and live in the trust that these truths allow and acknowledge His presence and Lordship in all.
He makes that happen, too.
God is for us.
He is awesome.
Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. Psalm 46:10-11
SMOOTHSTONE: God is limitless in wisdom, love, ability and power.
Very good, B.! awesome?
